Instructional Models

We have developed four different instructional models that teachers can use to give students an opportunity to learn how to participate in scientific argumentation as they learn the core ideas and crosscutting concepts of science.  These approaches also give students an opportunity to participate in other scientific practices, such as planning and carrying out investigations and analyzing and interpreting data, and to develop their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. These instructional models include:

  • Generate an Argument
  • Evaluate Alternatives

  • Refutational Writing
  • Article-Based Argumentation (coming soon)
